Labor Day Weekend in the Corridor – so much to do it’s hard to choose!

There are a number of fun, family-friendly events to choose from this weekend. Here’s a quick rundown.

Freedom Festival Parade & Fireworks

After the flood forced the cancelation of the Freedom Festival in July, dozens of coordinators and community volunteers worked to ensure we still celebrated this fall.  This weekend the Freedom Festival returns as a “Celebration of Community.”  This Saturday (Aug 30) at 9:00 there will be a free parade at Kirkwood Community College.

The fireworks will take place Monday (Sept 1) at 8:30.  There will be two simultaneous displays — one launched from behind the Kernels scoreboard and the other from a soccer field behind the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena.

There is much more going on for Freedom Festival this weekend – check out their Web site for more info.

New Bohemia Music Festival

60 local and regional bands have been booked to perform on nine different stages over Labor Day Weekend. The 2nd Annual New Bohemia Music Festival put on by The New Bohemia Group. The event will take place this weekend in three different cities on three different days Friday, Saturday and Sunday, August 29, 30 and 31. Profits from the festival will help support future programs and events designed to aid recovery efforts in the New Bohemia Cultural District.

Summer of the Arts – Friday Night Concert Series

Diplomats of Solid Sound will be playing Friday, August 29th for Iowa City’s “Friday Night Concnert Series.”  All Friday Night Concert Series events take place on the Pedestrian Plaza, Weatherdance Fountain, outside the Sheraton Iowa City Hotel and run from 6:30 – 9:30 p.m.
