This weekend is the annual Oktoberfest festival in Amana.
Saturday at 10 a.m. is the parade. It is a nice parade for families. Kids always get a lot of candy and it lasts about an hour.
Sit by the chocolate Haus and the Stone Hearth Bakery. And because it may be a little chilly, you can get coffee, hot chocolate or my daughters favorite a chocolate chai with whipped cream at the Chocolate Haus. They also have great caramel apples at the Chocolate Haus. Across the street you can get a pastry or some cookies.
Another great place to sit is down by the Ransburg Restaurant. The music will start shortly after the parade.
Before the parade you can admire the decorations and check out some of the shops. Many businesses do a lot of decorating with pumpkins, gourds, mums and hay bales.
After the parade there will be music everywhere:
Russ Dietz and the Stray Cats (polka music) performance at Millstream Brewery. No admission. Amana bratwurst and hot dogs available outside. Featuring our Oktoberfest beer.
Becky and The Ivanhoe Dutchmen at The Ransburg. BBQ on the front lawn weather permitting.
And if you want to buy a ticket to the Festhalle, you can listen to music until 11:00 p.m.
Keg Toss, Cross-Cut Log Sawing, Brat Eating Contest
If you are interested in eating at one of the restaurants, try and make reservations tonight, they will be very busy, but there will be many food booths in the area, too.
So come out to Amana this weekend. It should be a great weekend. The forecast says 64 on Saturday. It takes about 30 minutes from the Cedar Rapids to downtown Amana! It is also about 30 minutes from Iowa City to Amana.
