Corridor Area Pumpkin Patches and Other Kid-friendly Halloween Activities

Looking for something to do this fall with your little pumpkins?  The corridor offers a ton of fun activities from apple orchards, to pumpkin patches, to safe trick-or-treating.  Here’s a list of activities I compiled.  Feel free to comment if you’ve visited any of these, and let me know if I missed any good ones!

Knight’s Farm: Pumpkin Patch
This is the one my family usually goes to every year. It’s located outside Cedar Rapids in Springville. It has a pumpkin patch, kids fun area with inflatable toys, a hayrack, and a mini-corn maze just right for the kiddos.

Honey Creek Acres
This one has already been reviewed – check it out.
Located in Swisher on Swisher View Dr, this is both an apple orchard AND a pumpkin patch.

Bloomsberry Farms
This farm offers a pumpkin patch, train rides, corn maze, haunted corn maze, straw or hay bale maze, child-sized haybale maze, corn cannon, gift shop, snacks and refreshment stand, restrooms, picnic area, tractor-pulled hay rides, face painting, petting zoo. It’s located two miles north of Atkins. Open Labor Day weekend thru October 31st.

Heartland Farms
Ok, this is in Waterloo but this pumpkin patch has a feature my son would really like: the Punkinator, a pumpkin launcher that hurls pumpkins 600 to 800 feet skyward into a neighboring corn field. Cool!  Cost is $6 for admission into Heartland Farms and includes Scarecrow’s Haunted Barn, Haunted Cornfield, Pumpkin Playland and hayride.

Safe Halloween Trick-or-treating for Kids
Be sure to mark your calendar for this Sunday, October 26the from 12:00-3:00pm and go to Noelridge park for a safe Halloween event for kids.  This family-friendly event offers trick-or-treating, games and costume contests. Admission may be paid at the door, but pre-registration is encouraged. Sponsored by the Cedar Rapids Parks & Recreation Department’s Ushers Ferry. $5 for anyone trick-or-treating. Visit for more info.

2-Jo’s Farm & Western Town
This farm features a haunted hayrack Ride, a haunted barn!  At night they offer ghost stories around a camp fire and Sat afternoons the have ponies, pumpkins and a petting zoo. Ghost Stories around the camp fire!

Open every Fri & Sat in Oct from 7pm to 10pm. All of these included for only $5.00 Open every Friday & Saturday in October. 7 PM to 10 PM.  18 miles west of Cedar Rapids on Hwy 30. 319-551-3660 or 228-8555.

Ghost Train: Midwest Haunted Rails
This is in Mt. Plesant, so it’s a bit of a drive, but it sounds like something kids would love! The Midwest Central Railroad and Old Threshers’ Midwest Electric Railway take on an eerie feel for its annual “Ghost Train of No Return and the Ghostly Trolley.” The MCRR and the Midwest Electric Railway will join together for a single price “all you can ride” event. Ages 4 and under are free. No reservations are required for the Haunted Rails.
