Looking for something to do this fall with your little pumpkins? The corridor offers a ton of fun activities from apple orchards, to pumpkin patches, to safe trick-or-treating. Here’s a list of activities I compiled. Feel free to comment if you’ve visited any of these, and let me know if I missed any good ones!
Knight’s Farm: Pumpkin Patch
This is the one my family usually goes to every year. It’s located outside Cedar Rapids in Springville. It has a pumpkin patch, kids fun area with inflatable toys, a hayrack, and a mini-corn maze just right for the kiddos.
Honey Creek Acres
This one has already been reviewed – check it out.
Located in Swisher on Swisher View Dr, this is both an apple orchard AND a pumpkin patch.
This farm offers a pumpkin patch, train rides, corn maze, haunted corn maze, straw or hay bale maze, child-sized haybale maze, corn cannon, gift shop, snacks and refreshment stand, restrooms, picnic area, tractor-pulled hay rides, face painting, petting zoo. It’s located two miles north of Atkins. Open Labor Day weekend thru October 31st.
Ok, this is in Waterloo but this pumpkin patch has a feature my son would really like: the Punkinator, a pumpkin launcher that hurls pumpkins 600 to 800 feet skyward into a neighboring corn field. Cool! Cost is $6 for admission into Heartland Farms and includes Scarecrow’s Haunted Barn, Haunted Cornfield, Pumpkin Playland and hayride.

The Midwest Central Railroad and Old Threshers’ Midwest Electric Railway take on an eerie feel for its annual “Ghost Train of No Return and the Ghostly Trolley.” The MCRR and the Midwest Electric Railway will join together for a single price “all you can ride” event. Ages 4 and under are free. No reservations are required for the Haunted Rails.
