Come out to Bluesmore and get down

The blues tells a story. Every line of the blues has a meaning.
-John Lee Hooker

I’ll be the first to admit – Iowa and the blues are not synonymous.  But that doesn’t mean we don’t appreciate the blues. In fact, right here in Cedar Rapids we have an annual event to show our appreciation for the blues and experience up ‘n coming as well as established blues artists.   This year’s Bluesmore will be held this Saturday, August 2, 2008 from 4:00 – 9:30 pm.

For the 14th year in a row, Brucemore and the Linn County Blues Society have joined forces to present a concert of local and national blues artists. Blues legends have performed for thousands at the Brucemore Mansion, and young and old alike come out to get down. In addition, the Bluesmore festival also offers educational music workshops are perfect for children and families.

This year’s lineup features Bernard Allison, Nick Moss and The Fliptops and Matt Woods and the Thunderbolts

Some bring some folding chairs and get ready to enjoy a night under the stars listening to some incredible music.

Pictures from the Marion Arts Festival

Hundreds packed Marion Square Park to see vendors from throughout the Midwest. From jewelry to paintings and ceramics, there was something for everyone – including some amazing kettle corn to enjoy why you shopped. We had the opportunity to spend a couple hours at the Marion Arts Festival today, as well as visiting a few shops in downtown Marion.

I thought I’d share some pictures.
