Hear ye, hear ye, All ye Lads and Lasses, Lords and Ladies! If ye need something to entertain thyself this end of week, gather thyself and go to the Iowa Renaissance Festival.
17th Annual Iowa Renaissance Festival and Gathering o’ Celts
May 3-4, 2008
Middle Amana Park (Medici Grove) – Amana Colonies, IA
There will be jousting, musicians, magicians, and fun for the whole family. At the festivals that I have attended, you are more than welcome to come in Renaissance garb and such if that suits your fancy.
This festival is just one of the many wonderful events happening in the Eastern Iowa Corridor this weekend.
So many choices… so little time.

The Cedar Rapids/Iowa City corridor is a hot spot of cultural activity. From the annual jazz festival to Riverside Theatre’s Shakespeare in the park, there is always something fun and unique to do. Although our major venues, such as the U.S. Cellular Center, the Paramount Theatre, and Hancher Auditorium historically have attracted some pretty impressive shows and entertainers, this spring’s line-up is really creating quite the buzz with the locals.
Blue Man Group and Cirque du Soleil: Saltimbanco will be playing at the U.S. Cellular Center over the course of the next couple of months. Both are Cedar Rapids premieres.
Blue Man Group
If you have not seen the Blue Man Group you simply MUST GO. It’s one of the most original shows I’ve ever been to! Even non-theatre types like my husband and my father enjoyed themselves and were mesmerized by the visual intensity.
Cirque du Soleil Saltimbanco
Although I’ve never been, I’ve heard that Cirque du Soleil shows are an amazing experience.
From their Web site:
Saltimbanco -from the Italian “saltare in banco”, which literally means “to jump on a bench”-explores the urban experience in all its myriad forms: the people who live there, their idiosyncrasies and likenesses, families and groups, the hustle and bustle of the street and the towering heights of skyscrapers.
Between whirlwind and lull, prowess and poetry, Saltimbanco takes spectators on an allegorical and acrobatic journey into the heart of the city. Saltimbanco is a Cirque du Soleil signature show inspired by the urban fabric of the metropolis and its colorful inhabitants. Decidedly baroque in its visual vocabulary, the show’s eclectic cast of characters draws spectators into a fanciful, dreamlike world, an imaginary city where diversity is a cause for hope.Ticket information
Hats off the US Cellular Center for bringing some of the biggest names in entertainment to the corridor for us all to enjoy!
